Butt Valley Reservoir, or commonly known as Butt Lake, is just a short drive from Plumas Pines Resort via Prattville Butt Reservoir Road. Surrounded by forests, mountain scenery, and open water, the reservoir is a popular destination for visitors to the Lake Almanor Basin. While the 2021 Dixie Fire left a visible burn scar throughout portions of the surrounding landscape, the area continues to offer excellent opportunities for fishing, hunting, boating, camping, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor recreation.
Butt Valley Reservoir is connected to nearby Lake Almanor and serves as the second level of PG&E’s “Stairway of Power.” In 2020, 2,477 acres surrounding Butt Valley Reservoir were permanently protected through a conservation easement held by the Feather River Land Trust. The easement protects the land from subdivision and development while preserving open space, natural habitat, and opportunities for public access and recreation.
